Gorilla Grabs Boy, Then Is Shot Dead: Right or Wrong?

I'm sure you have all heard the story about the Gorilla at the Zoo in Cincinnati grabbing a 3-year old boy after he fell into the enclosure. I'm a little unclear about one aspect of this story: did the kid jump in? The mother turned her back on the child, and then screamed when she saw him with the Gorilla. The kid had just asked mommy if he could jump in and play with it. Then, she turns around leaves the kid in a place where he could fall or jump in. Next thing you know, the kid is King Kong's playmate.

The mother is the one who killed this animal. Would I have shot him if it was my kid? Yes. But, I also would never have left a child in a place where he could fall into a Gorilla's pit. The mother is a moron, and the Zoo did what it had to do. Very sad.
