Goz’s College Football Top 25 Poll (Week 8)
This season I’ll be providing my own personal Top 25 poll each week during the college football season. My poll philosophy is ranking the teams I believe are the best twenty five best in the country following that given week’s games. Below are my rankings and comments about each week’ biggest shake up and changes.
1) Alabama
2) Ohio State
3) Michigan
4) Clemson
5) Louisville
6) Texas A&M
7) Washington
8) Baylor
9) Nebraska
10) Florida
11) Wisconsin
12) West Virginia
13) Florida State
14) Houston
15) LSU
16) Arkansas
17) Boise State
18) Western Michigan
19) Oklahoma
20) Auburn
21) North Carolina
22) Tennessee
23) Ole Miss
24) Utah
25) Stanford
It’s Alabama and then everybody else-If I could give Alabama more than one vote as the #1 team in the country I would. They dominated Tennessee this week 49-10. I genuinely don’t know one team that could stay within double digits of Alabama. The Crimson Tide play Texas A&M who I have ranked as the #6 team in the country. The Aggies are a 16 ½ point under dog! Right now in mid-October, it looks like it will be Alabama’s title to lose.
Will the love of LSU/Florida and hate of Houston ever stop?-Probably not. Houston barely beat Tulsa this week. The Cougars stopped the Golden Hurricane at the one yard line in the fourth quarter for the game tying touchdown. I can’t make an argument that Houston would beat any team I have ranked ahead of them. Same goes for LSU. The Tigers with Leonard Fournette lost to a really good Wisconsin team and on the road at Auburn on the last play of the game. I know Florida lost to Tennessee but that game was in front of the largest crowd in Neyland Stadium with College Gameday in town. The Gators are for real this year.
Stay up and watch Washington and Boise State- Washington destroyed Oregon in their last game before hitting their idle this past week. Their quarterback Jake Browning could be poised into making a late surge for the Heisman Trophy. Boise State looked great Saturday in the first half against Colorado State. I have the Broncos on full upset alert this week when they take on BYU. A loss by the Broncos and the continued slide by Houston could be setting up Western Michigan for a New Year’s Day bowl.
