La Magnificant King Henry. Or in English Magnificent Henrik Lundqvist records his 2nd straight shutout, this time on the road in game 7 of the eastern conference quarterfinals,5-0, leading the Rangers to a 5-0 win and a series victory!

Lundqvist was terrific when needed the most. He was simply spectacular in game 6 then followed that up with another sharp performance in game 7. He was huge in the 1st period, stopping several good Cap chances and allowing the Rangers much maligned offense time to rev up. When it did it felt like a house of cards fell in on rival net minder Braden Haltby. New York scored1 in the 1st, then 2 quickies in the 2nd, and they put the kibosh on any hopes Washington had of a comeback with 2 more early 3rd period goals. All toll a WIPEOUT of the 3rd seeded caps and their OVER RATED "star" Alexander Ovechkin. For the record the 32 goal during the regular season captain of the caps had just 1 goal in the series. As usual he choked! Compare that to Ranger forward Arron Asham who had 2 goals the entire season yet matched that in the series.

The numbers get uglier for the Caps. They were the favorites in the series, finishing as the hottest team in the NHL the last 20 games. They are now 2-5 all time in game 7's on home ice and for the 2nd straight season they lose to the Rangers in a game 7.

Meantime the hardworking Rangers won the series without getting a goal from their star Rick Nash. Captain Ryan Callahan was kept off the score sheet until his goal early in the 3rd let the Caps know there will be no comeback tonight. Also scoring for Ny besides Asham and the captain were Taylor Pyatt, his 1st, Michael Del Zotto, his 1st and Mats Zuccarello finished the scoring for the Rangers, his 1st of the series. What the Rangers lack in skill they make up with hard work and grit. They blocked 14 shots in just the 1st period, 27 total. In comparison the Caps had just 9.

Back to Lundqvist. He shut out the caps in the final 6 periods of this series. The last goal Washington scored was the over time winner in game 5. can you say drought????

On the night Lundqvist blocked, stopped, batted down 35 shots.

The Rangers will now take on the big bad Boston Bruins who had a miracle comeback in game 7 against the Toronto Maple Leafs. Boston trailed 4-1 midway through the 3rd period then stormed back to tie it with less then a minute to go and won the game in overtime to eliminate the Leafs. Amazingly these long time combatants haven't played each other in the playoffs in 40 years!!!!

Game 1 will be in Boston on Thursday night.
