Maple Hill graduate Jaime Schultz may have dominated yesterday with a 12-strikeout performance for the AAA Durham Bulls, but that doesn't mean that fellow Capital Region native Jeff Hoffman would be outdone in his outing for the AAA Albuquerque Isotopes.

The Shaker High School graduate went six innings for the Rockies' affiliate yesterday, surrendering just two earned runs on five hits. He struck out five.

He took the no-decision yesterday but Hoffman is now 2-0 with a 1.99 ERA this season. He's struck out 19 in 22 2/3 innings.

I think Hoffman has a real chance to be pitching at Coors Field this summer, and I think it could be relatively soon. With numbers like this, the 2014 first-round draft pick could make his debut around June is my guess. If the Rockies remain in the NL West race and are playing for something, I'd definitely expect to him when the rosters expand in September.

He's shot through the minor leagues since coming back from Tommy John surgery right before being drafted. He pitched in A and AA ball in 2015 and debuted at AAA this year.
