A poor outing from Phil Hughes proved too much for the Yankees to overcome, they fell to the Orioles 5-3.

Phil Hughes' second was no better than his first, as the long ball, once again, became his undoing; solo home runs by Flaherty, Markakis, and Reimold powered the Orioles - who added two other runs on groundouts.

The Yanks added home runs of their own through Travis Hafner and Vernon Wells, but it wasn't enough. So wasted was the sparkling relief effort of David Phelps, who went four innings in relief and gave up only one hit.

The Yankees and Orioles will play the series' rubber match Sunday at 8:05.  Coverage begins at 7:30 on 104.5 The Team.
