How to Spend a Summery October Day in the Capital Region

Hike at Thacher’s

If you want to see some magnificent fall foliage this weekend, Thacher’s is the place to go. While it’s conveniently located right outside of Albany, the nature preserve has the power to totally eject you from the city for a day with its winding trails, caverns, and miles of scenic views. Who ever thought we could enjoy the beauty of Autumn while wearing just shorts and a tank top? Hey- we’re not complaining.

Picnic at Lock 7

This idea is so simple, and that’s why it’s so great. Lock 7 in Niskayuna is surrounded by turning trees and calming water. It’s also really cool to see the lock empty and fill to let boats go by. Just load up some sandwiches and snacks, bring a friend, and have a good-old-fashioned picnic by the water.
