Toronto Blue Jays pitcher J.A. Happ was throwing a pitch, just like any other one he has thrown in his career, to Desmond Jennings of the Tampa Bay Rays. Unlike most of the pitches he's thrown in his career, though, this one was hit directly at his head.

Goodness, that is terrifying. Truly cringe worthy stuff. As you can see, Happ was immobile for a while and had to be carried off of the field.

This brings back an interesting argument as to whether or not pitchers should be wearing protective head gear on the mound to avoid these type of gruesome, yet avoidable, injuries. While some people argue that they should go without any type of protection, I'm sure there's at least one man who thinks they should: J.A. Happ.
