Shaker High School graduate Jeff Hoffman suffered his third loss of the season last night for the Dunedin Blue Jays, Class A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays.

Hoffman, the No. 9 pick in last year's MLB draft, went five innings, allowing just two earned runs on five hits in a 3-1 loss to the Daytona Tortugas (Reds).

Hoffman walked one and struck out five as he works his way back from Tommy John Surgery, which he underwent right before the draft last year.

For the season, Hoffman is now 2-3 in 10 starts. He has gone no more than 5.2 innings in any start, presumably as the Blue Jays continue to monitor his workload.

Hoffman, who throws more than 95 MPH, only has 32 strikeouts in 49.1 innings. We'll try to get in touch with Blue Jays broadcaster Marshall Kelner soon to talk about Hoffman's lack of punchouts. He only has 15 walks in those 49.1 innings, so he has been around the plate.
