Jeter, Tanaka, Betances Named to All-Star Team
Derek Jeter was named to his 14th all-star team on Sunday as he will represent the American League as the starting shortstop at the game on July 15th in Minnesota.
Despite hitting just .266 this season, Jeter won the fan vote at shortstop. It is his ninth start at the Midsummer Classic.
Masahiro Tanaka, acquired from Japan in the offseason via free agency, has been one of the best stories in baseball this season. He could earn the start for the AL next Tuesday, currently owning a 12-3 record and a 2.27 ERA. Armed with impeccable control, Tanaka has 130 strikeouts and just 18 walks in 122 innings.
Dellin Betances has also been of baseball’s best bullpen arms in 2014, pitching to a 4-0 record and a 1.61 ERA in 50.1 innings.
