[EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J.] - The New York Jets escaped with a 28-23 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars at MetLife Stadium Sunday to move to 5-3 on the season. Here are the five major takeaways from the game:

1. The Jets showed their toughness.

Quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick played well despite having a fractured left thumb. He recorded 272 yards and two touchdowns on 21-of-34 throwing the ball. Ryan Quigley filled in as the place kicker because Nick Folk strained his squad in pre-game warmups. Quigley was a perfect four-for-four on point-after attempts.

2. Hyped on miscues.

The Jaguars had two costly turnovers in the final minutes of the game. A botched punt set the Jets up with great field position, which they used to punch in their final touchdown of the game. Jacksonville's final possession ended in an interception, which allowed the New York to run out the clock. Earlier in the game, the Jets intercepted a Blake Bortles pass and found the end zone seven plays later.

3. Bortles was baffled.

The Jets tallied six sacks on Blake Bortles. This pursuit of Bortles forced the Jaguars back 43 yards.

4. They won without a running game.

The Jets managed just 29 rushing yards on 28 attempts. Chris Ivory carried the ball 23 times and racked up 26 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

"We got to open holes better," head coach Todd Bowles said. "[Chris] has got to see holes better. It's a combination of both. When people start to take away the run, the passing game opens up, so we're making plays that way."

5. Ball security was key.

The Jets did not turn the ball over once for the first time all season. On the other side, the Jaguars coughed the ball up four times.
