As Albany native Dion Lewis fights to make the Patriots roster in 2015, we do get some sad Capital Region news out of New England...

Vellano, a CBA grad, spent two seasons in New England after being signed as a rookie free agent out of Maryland. The Clifton Park native played in all 16 games in 2013, making eight starts. The Patriots credit Vellano with two sacks and 48 tackles in his rookie season. Profootballreference.com has Vellano with 22 solo tackles and 37 assisted tackles in that season.

Vellano played in both Pats' postseason games in 2013. In 2014, Vellano played in five games (one start), before being on the practice squad for most of the year. He was signed back to the 53-man roster for the postseason.

He played in the AFC Championship game against the Colts.

He also spent time at Super Bowl Media Day with our own Armen Williams and Jeff Levack, so our staff wishes him nothing but the best moving forward.
