John L. Smith To Take Over For Petrino At Arkansas
The Arkansas Razorbacks have named John L. Smith their new football coach to replace the recently fired Bobby Petrino. Smith will serve on an interim basis as it is only a one-year deal.
Petrino was fired on April 10 by Arkansas athletic director Jeff Long saying the Coach "engaged in a pattern of misleading and manipulative behavior designed to deceive me and members of the athletic staff" after being involved in a motorcycle accident earlier in the month. Petrino also hired his mistress, Jessica Dorrell, to a position within the football program. Further investigations showed that Petrino gave Dorell a "gift" of $20,ooo.
Smith has been head coach at numerous schools including Idaho, Utah State, Louisville and Michigan State. He recently served as Special Teams Coach for Arkansas under Petrino. Overall as a Head Coach Smith has a record of 132-86, has 6 conference championships but only 1 bowl win.
