Jonathan Mayo of MLB.com Talks Whitley

With the Major League Baseball Draft coming up on Monday, we are going all out in our coverage of Niskayuna standout Garrett Whitley.

Earlier today, we spoke to Whitley about his emotions, the draft process, and why teams should draft him. You can hear that full interview here.

Well, we also brought in MLB.com draft expert Jonathan Mayo today to talk about Whitley, his game, and his draft prospects.

Mayo had Whitley as the No. 17 pick (Cleveland) in a recent mock draft and he told me today that he sees him going anywhere between pick No. 10 and the teens.

Furthermore, he says that Whitley has a skillset comparable to Mike Trout, but also whats drawing major league eyes is his batspeed. Mayo said that Whitley's batspeed is drawing comparisons to that of Padres superstar outfielder Justin Upton.

Whitley will be live at the draft on Monday night in Studio 42 of the MLB Network.
