ESPN's Ramona Shelburne is reporting that the New York Knicks will sign guard/forward Aaron Afflalo.

Afflalo, a combo guard/forward, averaged 10.6 points per game last season for the Portland Trailblazers.

He's been in the league since 2007-08 and has averaged more than 13 ppg for his career. His best years came with the Orlando Magic from 2012-14, when he averaged more than 17 points a game.

Afflalo will help the Knicks stretch the defense, as he is a 39 percent career three-point shooter.

Perhaps more importantly, Afflalo has already played with Carmelo Anthony, as the two spent time in Denver together.

This may not be the flashy pickup that Knicks fans were looking for, but it is definitely a useful move that will help the Knicks improve. And in a weak Eastern Conference, a few moves like this could at least make the Knicks relevant.

Now, the Knicks will likely turn attention to free agent center Greg Monroe.
