The City of Los Angeles has decided to dedicate an entire day to one of the most beloved athletes in the history of the Golden State, Kobe Bryant. The day honoring the five time champion will be Wednesday, August 24, 2016. As in, 8/24, the two jersey numbers that Kobe wore during his NBA record 20 years with the Lakers.

Kobe racked up three championships and a million accolades while wearing the #8 from 1996-2006, and then won two more championships and one trillion more accolades while wearing #24 from the 2006-07 season until his retirement this past year.

Point blank, Kobe Bryant is one of the 10 best basketball players in the history of the NBA. And he didn't just win five titles, score the third most points in league history, be a 18-time all star and 12-time all league defender...he did all as a Laker. One of the two most prestigious organizations the NBA has to offer, and for a city in L.A. that loves it's basketball.

This honor was a no-brainer for Los Angeles. Not only is he their favorite son on the basketball court, but Kobe, along with his wife Vanessa, created the Kobe and Vanessa Bryant Family Foundation (KVBFF). This foundation focused on the youth and families of L.A. They also partnered with a dozen other organizations such as United Way, Step Up on Second, My Friends Place, NBA Cares, and Make a Wish Foundation.

Raise your glasses to #8 and #24...Happy Kobe Day!
