Kuroda Solid In Yankees 2-0 Win

The Yankees (26-21) completed the three game weekend sweep of the Oakland A’s (22-26) on Sunday afternoon beating them 2-0. It was the Yankees fifth win in a row. Yankees starter Hiroki Kuroda was sharp in his outing working with little run support. Kuroda pitched eight innings of shutout ball giving up only four hits and walking one along the way.  The win puts Kuroda at 4-6 on the season.

Oakland A’s starter Tommy Milone pitched well but got zero run support in his outing. Milone went 6 2/3 innings gave up two runs on eight hits and struck out three, but a couple of mistakes were all the Yankees needed.

The Yankees loaded the bases with one out in the first but failed to score, in the second inning however Andruw Jones led off with a solo home run. It was Jones fifth of the season and put the Yankees on top 1-0.

The Yankees second run came from a Mark Teixeira RBI double in the seventh inning. Teixeira now has seven extra-base hits and nine RBI in his last six games.

Rafael Soriano came on in the ninth for his fifth save of the season.

Derek Jeter’s leadoff single in the first inning was the 3,155^th hit of his career moving him past George Brett for 14^th all-time. Next on the list is Cal Ripken at 3,184.

The Yankees will play again on Monday night against the Los Angeles Angels. Phil Hughes (4-5 4.94) starts for the Yankees, while Jared Weaver (6-1 2.61) goes for the Angels. Pregame starts at 8:30, first pitch at 9:05 right here on 104.5 The Team ESPN Radio.
