Vashkulat was pinned (called an “ippon” in judo) a minute and 44 seconds into his first Olympic match against Ramziddin Sayidov of Uzbekistan. Vashkulat, who is the 37th ranked player in the world lost to the 4th ranked earlier this year, and although Vashkulat felt he competed better the result was the same.

Vashkulat plans to remain in London through the closing ceremonies, then return to Schenectady Community College to continue studying business. Vashkulat, like our other local Judoka Olympian Nick Delpopolo, isn’t done with his Olympic journey, vowing to compete for a spot in the 2016 Summer Games.
