Yesterday did not start out well for Maria Sharapova in her Wimbledon quarter final match with Sabine Lisicki of Germany.  She dropped the first three games and double faulted 13 times.   The 24 year old was far from done though. She battled back to take 12 of the last 16 games.  Now she moves on.

The last time Sharapova was in the final was in 2004 and she was 17 years old.  7 years later she is back and ready to face off against Petra Kvitova.  Kvitova beat the heavily favored Victoria Azarenka yesterday to move onto the final round.   The 7 year gap between finals appearances for Sharapova is the longest for women in the Open era.

Sharapova's last big title was the 2008 Australian Open.  After that she was sidelined by a pretty serious injury which required surgery in the same year.
