This shouldn't come as any shock as we have heard this was going to indeed happen. In fact had Mariano Rivera not gotten hurt last season the word was that was to be his final season.

However he did get hurt and not wanting to exit from his hall of fame career crumpled up on the warning track in Kansas City, Rivera decided to come back for 2013.

Noe according to ESPN's Buster Olney this will be the great Rivera's last year and announcement will come shortly, perhaps before the weekend is out.

Olney is reporting that the official announcement will come Saturday at 10:00 A.M. from Tampa, before the Yanks take on the Atlanta Braves in a spring training game.

Rivera is the all times saves leader with 608. the only thing that will keep him from being a 1st ballot hall of famer is some goofy voter.

Last year Rivera played it kind of coy with the media when it came to making an official pronouncement  that it would be his swan song. However something appears to have changed.

Personally I am glad he will make it known now so he can get the send off he richly deserves, similar to Chipper Jones last season.
