A Year removed from losing his starting job to Teddy Bridgewater in Minnesota Matt Cassel appears to have a SMALL edge in the Buffalo Bills starting QB competition. I have long thought he was the best option when considering Tyrod Taylor is a career backup and EJ Manuel is turnover prone. HOWEVER after talking to Mike Rodak of ESPN Buffalo and many other reporters with up close knowledge of the QB battle I thought Cassel was out but now he appears to be the favorite, at least for now.

Here's how Cassel has performed so far.

  • Friday, first 11-on-11 period: 3-for-4, interception
  • Friday, second 11-on-11 period: 2-for-3
  • Saturday, first 11-on-11 period: 1-for-3
  • Saturday, second 11-on-11 period: 3-for-4
  • Sunday, first 11-on-11 period: no passes, three sacks
  • Sunday, second 11-on-11 period: 3-for-3, sack
  • Total: 12-for-17, four sacks, one interception
