Hall of Famer Kevin McHale has been named head coach of the Houston Rockets.  There is an interesting twist to this hire involving Kevin Martin and Kobe Bryant.

SI.com reports that Houston Rockets' guard Kevin Martin appears to have been given a voice in the Rockets' coaching search that the Lakers' Kobe Bryant was not.  Bryant was not consulted by the Los Angeles Lakers when they made the decision to hire former Cleveland Cavaliers' head coach Mike Brown this week.  Kevin Martin indicated that the Rockets kept him in the loop.

Kevin McHale is a three-time NBA champion and seven-time All-Star forward.  He has a 39-55 career coaching record with the Minnesota Timberwolves.  The Rockets gave McHale a three-year deal with a team option for a fourth.
