While most people would still argue that the Mets main concern is offense, the Orange and Blue took a measure to help its bullpen on Monday, acquiring closer Tyler Clippard from the A's in exchange for prospect Casey Meisner.

Clippard, the hard-throwing right-hander with a great changeup, had 17 saves for Oakland this season. He should help a bullpen that is anchored by Jeurys Familia.

As Adam Rubin reports, Bobby Parnell's velocity has been down since coming back from Tommy John surgery and Jenrry Mejia is ineligible for the postseason after testing positive for a performance-enhancing substance earlier in the season. Thus, Clippard could be a key piece down the stretch.

While financial concerns are a main reason that the Mets haven't gone after a marquee bat, Rubin reports the Mets will pay $2.1 million of Clippard's remaining $3.1 million.

The Mets reportedly also tried to get Ben Zobrist from Oakland, but were unable to come to an agreement.

Rubin reports the Mets will still look for an OF before Friday's trade deadline.
