Baseball season is just right around the corner as pitchers and catchers report next week. With that comes excitement for every team, but especially high are the hopes for the New York Mets, who return nearly everyone from a team that went to the World Series a season ago.

The Mets enter 2016 as one of the major favorites in the National League, and after seeing Keith Law's Top 100 Prospect List, the Mets have a chance to be very good for a long time.

Four players in the Top 100 including Domonic Smith (No. 29), SP Steven Matz (37), SS Ahmed Rosario (42) and SS Gavin Cecchini (89).

We look at what Law and Amazin' Avenue have to say, with some tidbits from myself:

On SmithLaw added that he believes Smith is a safe bet to be a .300 hitter with 20-homer upside with sparkling defense at first base. However, Law says his upside may only be reached if Smith "keeps his uniform buttons from bursting," as Law points out Smith could be skipping basic conditioning, resulting in sloppy defense in the Arizona Fall League. Smith was the 11th overall pick by the Mets in 2013. He is still just 20 years old.

On Matz: From Law: "A league-average starter who might show flashes above that but won't have the durability to profile as more than a mid-rotation guy."

I think Matz is better than that, and being left-handed will help be a staple in the rotation. With the Mets, he projects as a No. 4 or 5 for the time being, so I think he's above average for those spots.

Rosario is a defensive wiz, not very big. I saw him play with the Brooklyn Cyclones and he runs well and is fun to watch. Law says: "He has the kind of raw tools and athleticism to be a top 10 prospect in the game in a year."

Cecchini is a guy I know not much about, but Law says he should be a "solid regular."
