With the kind of year the Mets have had, does it really shock you that two of their most productive players got hurt in the same game? And should it really shock you that both of these players are now going on the disabled list? Allow me to answer both of those questions for you: NO!

Yesterday, both Daniel Murphy and Jose Reyes left the game against the Braves with injuries. And now today, both players have been placed on the disabled list. According to Adam Rubin from ESPNNewYork.com, Murphy suffered a Grade 2 strain of the MCL in his left knee and will miss the remainder of the season. Reyes suffered a left hamstring strain, the same injury that landed him on the DL in June.

To fill their roster spots, shortstop Ruben Tejada and outfielder/first baseman Mike Baxter have been promoted from Triple-A Buffalo. Tejada will handle the shortstop duties, as he has done in the past with Reyes injured. The 26-year-old Baxter was claimed off waivers from the San Diego Padres on July 22.
