The New York Mets lost yesterday in typical fashion, falling 3-0 to the Los Angeles Dodgers at Citi Field.

You couldn't expect the Mets to do much anyways with Clayton Kershaw on the mound, but you wouldn't necessarily pencil the Cy Young winner in for a perfect game through six innings, which is what he had. But still, Kershaw was nasty.

The Mets offense has been a growing source of frustration for their fans. New York ranks 29th of 30 teams in runs scored this season. They're last in total hits, last in team batting average, and tied for 26th in on-base percentage.

Perhaps more impressive in the department of futility is that yesterday marked just the second time in the live ball era that a team had a No. 4 and No. 5 hitter both hitting under .180 when they each 100 at-bats or more. John Mayberry Jr. and Eric Campbell make up that history lesson. Hat tip to Buster Olney for that.

There's a growing sense the Mets won't do anything at the trade deadline, which will continue to infuriate fans.
