After losing out on Ben Zobrist, the Mets made a good move in trading for Neil Walker on Wednesday afternoon. They then closed Wednesday by signing shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera.

Cabrera is a nice player. The 30-year-old shortstop provides some offense from both sides of the plate. He hit .265 last year with 15 home runs.

But this move is curious. All along we thought Wilmer Flores was going to be satisfactory at shortstop. Now what happens to him? What happens to Ruben Tejada? Are you really going to fully replace your middle infield that led you to the World Series?

This also stunts the growth of Dilson Herrera, the 21-year-old who figures to be in the Mets middle infield plans soon enough.

I like Cabrera, but I don't like this move. Flores now appears to be a bench player, and I was excited to watch the young SS grow.
