Long-time Met Gary Carter lost his battle with cancer a few weeks ago, and the New York Mets will pay their respect to the former player with a patch bearing his number 8 this season.

Gary Carter will forever be remembered by Mets fans and the organization for being part of that magical 1986 season.  This season, 2012,the team will remember Carter by wearing a number 8 patch. Mets owner Fred Wilpon showed the patch to Carters widow on Friday, and tweeted a picture of it Saturday.

The Mets will also be wearing a patch this season in honor of their first season in 1962.
