The Milwaukee Brewers have been on the cusp of greatness for a couple of years now and finally this year the hard work has paid off.  Last night they beat the Florida Marlins to win the NL Central for the first time in over 25 years.

A couple things needed to happen for the Brewers to win the NL Central last night.  They first of all needed to win, and also needed the Chicago Cubs to beat the St. Louis Cardinals.  Milwaukee did their part by beating the Marlins 4-1.  They then had to wait another 20 or so minutes to see if the Cubs would pull off a win against the Cardinals.  They did.  Chicago beat St. Louis 5-1 giving the Brewers their first division title since 1982.

The game was tied at 1-1 for most of the game until the 8th inning when Ryan Braun hit a 3 run homer to give the Brewers the lead and the eventual win.  After the game, and the Cardinals loss Prince Fielder ran around to still packed stadium and greeted fans that had stuck around for the celebration.

Milwaukee really ran away with the NL Central this summer while the Cardinals struggled.  Not as exciting as the Brewers 2008 season which saw them make the playoffs for the first time since winning the AL East in 1982.
