Nets Lose to The Bulls – P.J. Carlesimo Loses His Job
Thrust into an interim role after the early season firing of Avery Johnson, P.J. Carlesimo led the Nets to a nifty 35-19 record, helping to salvage their maiden season in Brooklyn. As thanks the Nets gave Carlesimo his walking papers on Sunday, the day after their season ended after losing game 7 of the eastern conference 1st round at home vs the Bulls.
Nets G.M. Billy King was walking around on Sunday claiming the Bulls loss had nothing to do with Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov choice to chop Carlesimo. Yeah and the world is flat.
The Nets lost to a ravaged Chicago team in game 7 at home, a loss that will sit with Brooklyn at least until next year begins if not longer.
Prokhorov is like a 6 year old kid, very impressionable. he wants Phil Jackson as the flavor of the year and seems caught up in his belief that Jackson will come to Brooklyn and coach his talented but emotionally thin team. Jackson has told many of his closest ties that he doesn't want to coach again. Jackson just took on an assignment to advise the Pistons on their coaching search. he is also believed to be the number 1 choice of the folks in Toronto to run their franchise.
Notorious coach killer Deron Williams, who again failed his team with a mostly lame series against the beaten up Bulls claimed he would like to play for Jerry Sloan again. That's almost laughable since it was Williams who got Sloan fired in Utah after so many great seasons. Williams helped get Johnson fired while walking away with his hands soiled but claiming innocence. Who knows how much he played into the firing of Carlesimo.
