At the end of the 2011/2012 NBA season one of, if not the, biggest free agents will be Dwight Howard.  The Nets are hoping to cut that off and grab him this season by trading away Brook Lopez and a couple future first round picks.  ESPN also reports that the Nets are also willing to take on the contract of Hedo Turkoglu who has three remaining years left on his current deal.

Teams can't officially start making any sort of player moves until December 9th when training camps officially begin, but rest assured, the Nets are ready to go and seem very serious.  A move to bring in Howard could keep Deron Williams around for the long haul too.
