It was predicted that the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame would give unbeaten Syracuse a run for their money, and they did.  Notre Dame beats #1 Syracuse 67-58.

Notre Dame didn't give Syracuse much of a chance right from the start.  They jumped out to an early lead and were able to hold onto it through out the entire game.  #1 Syracuse now falls to 20-1 after the 67-58 defeat.  'Cuse is now 7-1 in The Big East.  Notre Dame is at 12-8, and 4-3 in The Big East.

Syracuse's biggest performer was James Southerland who put up 15 points for the Orange.  Just 6 points for Brandon Triche and 2 points for Scoop Jardine.  The Irish in the meantime were lead by Jack Cooley who had 17 points and 10 rebounds.  Scott Martin would add 13 points, while Jerian Grant would put up 11.

We asked earlier this week if Syracuse would benefit from a loss, so maybe this is a good thing. Now that they have gotten it out of their system and no longer have to worry about going undefeated they will do much better come tournament time.
