How many times has Notre Dame started a season on a bad note? See South Florida for  example. Are the Irish looking at another poor start? Time will tell us  but Tommy Rees has put the Irish in a spot as he has been suspended for the opener, in Ireland, when they take on a feisty Navy team on September 1st.

Rees and Linebacker Carlo Calabrese have been suspended for the opener by head coach Brian Kelly after an offseason arrest.

Reese and Calabrese were both arrested back on May 3rd outside an off campus party. Rees pled guilty in July on charges of misdemeanor resisiting  law enforcement and illegal consumption of alcohol by a minor. He was hit with 50 days of community service and 11 months probation for the crimes.

The Irish have numbers but not experience for the opener and the season frankly. The only QB on the roster with game experience is Andrew Hendricks and honestly he conjures up no confidence after his lackluster  but brief performance in 2011. Notre Dame did sign a prospect in Gunner Kiel but he hasn't played college ball and they have Everett Golson-who. Yes E.Golson!.

2 counts were dropped by the district attorney's. 1 for resisting law enforcement and 1 a battery count. Rees ran from the police and was later peppered sprayed when caught. He got into a physical situation with the officer.

Rees has played 16 games in 2 years, including the last 12 games in 2011. he isn't Joe Montana that's for sure but will be missed vs Navy!

Calabrese played all 13 games last year and recorded 37 tackles while splitting time as the inside linebacker.
