The Yankees (60-43) dropped their fourth in a row on Tuesday night and second in a row to the Baltimore Orioles (55-49) losing 11-5. Despite the Yankees jumping on the board early and hammering Orioles starting pitcher Chris Tillman in the first inning, Ivan Nova could not get the job done and got pummeled in what was probably his worst start of the season.

In the bottom of the first inning Derek Jeter got things going with a leadoff double in the right center field gap which led to Curtis Granderson RBI single putting the Yankees up 1-0 right away. The Yankees weren’t done in the inning however; the next batter Robinson Cano drilled a two run homer putting the Yankees up 3-0 with no outs in the first inning. It was Cano’s 23rd of the season.  The Yankees would add two more in the first inning on an Ichiro RBI ground out and a Russell Martin RBI single. The Yankees were up 5-0 going into the second but Ivan Nova crumbled.

The Orioles managed to score seven runs in the top of the second inning all with two outs off of Nova. Mark Reynolds and Omar Quintanilla each had two RBI base hits and the inning was capped off by a Chris Davis grand slam sucking all of the life out of the Yankees who didn’t score another run after their 5 in the first.

The Orioles scored one more in the third when Wilson Betemit hit a double to left center scoring Lew Ford and in the fifth inning Betemit did it again singling in Adam Jones making the score 9-5. Nova went five innings gave up nine runs on 10 hits and struck out five in a start to forget.

The Orioles added two more in the eighth inning when Nick Markakis drilled a two run homer off of Clay Rapada. It was Markakis 10th of the season.

The Yankees look to turn things around tomorrow afternoon against the Orioles. Zach Britton (1-0 5.74) gets the start for the Orioles whilePhil Hughes (10-8 4.08) goes for the Yankees. Pregame coverage begins at 12:30, first pitch at 1:05 right here on 104.5 The Team ESPN Radio.
