R.A. Dickey became the first 9 game winner in the Majors today, pitching 7 1/3 scoreless innings as he coasted to a 3-1 victory over the Washington Nationals. The Mets knuckleball has now pitched a career best 24 2/3 consecutive scoreless innings and has lowered his ERA to an impressive 2.44. Dickey’s stellar effort in out dueling Ching Ming Wang this afternoon snapped a small 3-game skid for the Mets, avoided a sweep by the Nats and moved the team to 32-26 on the season. The Mets now head to the Bronx for a 3 game set with the cross-town Yankees.
