Rajon Rondo Ejected For Bumping Official [VIDEO]
Boston Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo was ejected on Sunday for bumping official Marc Davis. Rondo now faces a Game 2 suspension.
Rajon Rondo made a big impact in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals. Rondo scored 20 points with 11 assists, 4 rebounds, and 4 steals in 43 minutes for the Boston Celtics. However, it was what Rondo did in the final minute against the Atlanta Hawks that had the biggest impact on the game and potentially the next game.
With the Celtics trailing the Hawks 78-74 with 41 seconds left, Rondo was ejected for bumping official Marc Davis. Rondo was upset that a jump ball wasn’t called. Instead, Davis called a foul on Celtics forward Brandon Bass. Rondo received a technical foul for yelling at Davis. Then, Rondo received another technical and was ejected from the game for bumping Davis. The Hawks ended up beating the Celtics 83-74.
After the game, Rondo said, “Obviously, I was upset about the call. I said some words to Marc. I deserved the first tech. As I was walking, I thought he stopped. My momentum carried me into him. I even think I tripped on his foot. I didn’t intentionally chest-bump him. But that’s what it appears to be.” It appears to be that Rondo chest-bumped Marc Davis because Rondo chest-bumped Marc Davis. That’s exactly what happened. The league is likely to suspend Rondo for Game 2 unless they actually buy his story. That’s a tough sell. Game 2 of the series is Tuesday night at 7:30pm ET.
