Rangers Advance To First Stanley Cup In 20 Years
The New York Rangers are headed back to the Stanley Cup Finals for the first time in 20 years after beating the Montreal Canadiens 1-0 on Thursday night.
The Game 6 win closed out the 4-2 series for the Blueshirts..
Rangers center Dominic Moore broke the scoreless tie late in the second period. After that the Rangers held on, riding out the final period behind a tremendous showing from goalkeeper Henrik Lundqvist.
Lundqvist became the Rangers’ all-time leader with 42 playoff wins — passing Mike Richter. Richter was also the goalie when New York won its last Stanley Cup (1994).
The Rangers will play either the Chicago Blackhawks or Los Angeles Kings. The Kings currently lead that series 3-2.
Game 1 of the Finals will be played Wednesday night.
