The pitching matchup saw Hiroki Kuroda take on Jon Lester.  The Yankees would get on the board first as Derek Jeter would score on a fielder's choice in the bottom of the 1st. The Sox would take the lead in the bottom of the 3rd thanks to RBI's from Jacoby Elisbury and Dustin Pedroia.  Top of the 6th, the Captain would give the Yankees the lead again with a ground rule double that scored Curtis Granderson and Andruw Jones. That lead would be short lived as Pedroia would homer to tie it up in the bottom of the inning.

The Red Sox would look to take the lead in the bottom of the 7th as they were able to load the bases on three infield hits. Joba Chamberlain would come in and get the Yankees out of the jam. David Robertson would strike out the side in the 8th, but would struggle in the 9th. After getting the first batter out he would allow singles from Pedro Ciriaco, Mike Aviles and a game winning hit from Jacoby Elisbury, his fourth hit of the night.

Game 2 of this 3 game series is Wednesday night at Fenway as David Phelps will take the hill for the Yankees and he will face Aaron Cook for Boston. You can check out all the action on 104.5 The Team. Pregame at 6:30, first pitch at 7:10.
