Jay-Z may have something big he'd like to brush off his shoulder: an NFL investigation. TMZ reported that the NFL is looking into whether or not rap mogul-turned-sports agent Jay-Z had improper involvement in recruiting former West Virginia quarterback Geno Smith to his Roc Nation Sports agency. Smith was drafted by the New York Jets in April.

Smith signed with Roc Nation Sports earlier this week and was seen photographed with Jay-Z prior to inking the agreement, but only NFLPA-certified agents may recruit clients and Jigga was not yet certified.

Roc Nation has not yet been threatened with a penalty, but the investigation alone is something that the fledgling sports company doesn't want. Roc Nation has already signed New York Yankees' second baseman Robinson Cano and New York Giants' wide receiver Victor Cruz to deals and seems on its way to becoming a player in the sports agent space. The league bylaws could create future issues for Jay-Z, as the rapper has been in the company of many pro athletes due to his own celebrity status.
