The Yankees are moving closer and closer to a deal that would send closer Aroldis Chapman to the Cubs for top prospect Gleyber Torres and others:

Here's what you need to know:

1. This is the right move. Trading Chapman has always been the smart play with the Yankees not in the thick of playoff contention. Chapman is a free agent at the end of the season. You recoup some value for him (and Torres alone is good value), and then if you want him back, you offer him a contract in the offseason as a free agent. Wouldn't that be a win?

2. Torres is a 19-year-old shortstop, so the Yankees will be getting a great piece for their future, but he's still not close to the big leagues. Who else would be coming to the Yanks? Would it be a major league ready piece?

3. Will Torres have to switch positions? You already have Didi Gregorius playing well at shortstop and he looks like he could be there for years. Jorge Mateo is your next IF in waiting - also in High-A ball. Throw in Starlin Castro and you have four infielders going for three spots, as none of them will play first base.

It will be interesting to see what happens here as the trade could go down today.
