After six seasons in New York -- four consecutive of which have resulted in the Jets missing the playoffs -- the Jets have fired head coach Rex Ryan. Owner Woody Johnson also notified general manager John Idzik that he is out as well.

Ryan, who led the Jets to a 4-12 record this year, is still known as a great defensive coach and should have options as a defensive coordinator if he wants, or a TV personality, if not as a head coach elsewhere.

He went 46-50 across those six seasons. He did lead the Jets to back-to-back AFC Championship games in 2009 and 2010.

Idzik's firing signifies a total rebuild for Gang Green.
