David Ortiz extended an invitation to Mark Teixeira to join his team for the upcoming Home Run Derby.  Teixeira had an understandable reason for not accepting the offer.  "I'd been texting with David a little bit and I told him that if I was on the team, we'd talk," Teixeira said.  "If I'm not on the team, I'm not going to go to the Home Run Derby.  It's just too long of a trip and I'm going to spend those days with my family."

Mark Teixeira was not selected to the AL All-Star team and will not make the trip to Arizona for the All-Star festivities.  Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano will compete in the Home Run Derby instead.  Going into Monday's action, Teixeira is second in the majors with 25 home runs while Robinson Cano has gone yard 14 times this season.
