It looked like Shackleford was a solid contender to win the Belmont Stakes.  The Preakness Stakes winner got off to a solid start and led throughout the first mile of the mile-and-a-half Belmont track.  Shackleford tired and ended up finishing 5th.

Ruler On Ice took the lead with roughly a 1/2 mile to go on the muddy track and didn't look back.  Ruler On Ice was a huge long shot to win the race, but the colt pulled off the shocking upset.  Stay Thirsty finished 2nd while Brilliant Speed finished 3rd.  Kentucky Derby winner Animal Kingdom nearly threw his jockey at the start and finished well out of the money.  Ruler On Ice won the Belmont Stakes with a final time of 2:30:88.

(The woman in the hat really has nothing to do win the race, but I found it necessary to include her for some reason.)
