A superb outing from CC Sabathia and a strong 3rd inning from Yankee batters helped the Yankees beat the Twins 8-2.

The game started as a pitching matchup between Sabathia for the Yankees up against Samuel Deduno. Deduno wouldn't last long as he was pulled in the top of 2nd with left eye irritation.  Brian Duensing would take over for him.

The Twins would get on the board first in the bottom of the 2nd as Matt Carson would hit an RBI single to score Ryan Doumit. The Yankees would answer back quickly and have a huge inning in the top of the 3rd as Robinson Cano would double to right scoring Chris Dickerson and Ichiro Suzuki. Nick Swisher would follow that up with an RBI single to score Derek Jeter. Then Curtis Granderson would triple to score Cano and  Swisher. Granderson would score on a Duensing wild pitch. That would make for another short day for a Twins Pitcher as Duensing was taken out for Anthony Swarzak.

As we fast forward to the top of the 6th Chris Dickerson would add to the Yankee lead with a 2 run home run to deep right. In the 7th, the Twins would get a run off the bat of Pedro Florimon that would score Jamey Carrol.

CC would go 8 innings allowing only the 2 runs, walked only 1 and struck out 10. Cody Eppley would handle the 9th to secure the win for the Bombers. The magic numbers for the Yankees are  now 6 to win the AL East and 4 to make the post season.

On another note, Derek Jeter would go 0-3 which halted his hitting streak at 19.

The Yankees head to Toronto to start a 4 game series with the Blue Jays on Thursday. Ivan Nova will hope to bounce back from his shaky start on Saturday as he is scheduled to start for the Yankees up against Brandon Marrow for the Jays.
