You knew it was only a matter of time until Saturday Night Live feasted on the saga of Manti Te’o’s fake girlfriend.  Check out what SNL came up with.

The story of Manti Te’o falling for a “catfish” plot involving a fake girlfriend has a lot of people scratching their heads.  Unfortunately, this happens all of the time.  Smart people fall for stupid tricks and ridiculous scams every day.

Most of us have believed that something was true simply because we wanted it to be the case.  How many people believed that Lance Armstrong wasn’t doping simply because they wanted it to be the truth?  How many people have believed that their significant other was telling the truth about being monogamous simply because they wanted it to be true?  These things happen.

There are plenty of online relationships these days.  People do shady things online.  There are also many instances of men in jail developing deep relationships with women who write them without even meeting.  It happens.  It’s perplexing to me that people find this Manti Te’o situation so perplexing.  Manti wanted to believe that something was real when it wasn't.  Lennay Kekua turned out to be a farce.

That doesn’t make him the dumbest person on the face of the earth.  It possibly makes him the most well known human to fall for a cruel plot like this.  Point the finger at the sick people behind this inhumane joke before you point the finger at Manti for being a trusting man.  Wow, what a terrible person.
