Section II Football Players Are Recognized On State Team

Several players from Section II made the New York State Sportswriters Association football team.  The B, C and D classes were announced while the AA and A will be coming Jan. 11.

In Class B, Devon Willis (Schalmont), running back, first team offense; Dillon Greene (Cobleskill-Richmondville), offensive end, second team offense; Jean Gomez (Schalmont), linebacker, Alex Hildebrand (Schalmont), defensive back, second team defense; and Conner Hartigan (Albany Academy), AP, third team offense and Mike Paparian (Albany Academy), defensive line, and Ian Bennett (Albany Academy), linebacker, third team defense.

Alex Soutiere (Ravena), offensive line, Matt Raggi (Hudson Falls), offensive line, and Shane Lyon (Schuylerville), AP, fourth team offense and Mike Famalaro (Schalmont), defensive line, four team defense.

In Class C, Don Case (Voorheesville), offensive line, first team offense; Tanner Williams (Hoosick Falls), defensive back, first team defense; Wally Kowalski (Fonda-Fultonville), running back, Sam DeCelle (Mechanicville), place kicker, second team offense; Chris Hatalsky (Mechanicville), defensive line, second team defense; Tony Giroux (Greenwich), quarterback, Brad Burns (Hoosick Falls), running back, J.D. Springer (Voorheesville), offensive end, Tyler Cranker (Fonda-Fultonville), offensive line and Nick Casale (Tamarac), AP, third team offense; Ricky McBride (Stillwater), defensive line, Jeremy Barss (Hoosick Falls), defensive line, David Couch (Hoosick Falls), linebacker and Pat Ebenboch (Watervliet), defensive back, third team defense.

In Class D, Will Bromirski (Cambridge), offensive end, first team offense; Skyler Saunders (Cambridge), running back, Josh Hoagland (Whitehall), running back and Zach Diekel (Whitehall), offensive line, second team offense; Jeremy Stevens (Cambridge), defensive line, second team defense; Aaron Mulready (Cambridge), running back, third team offense and Tyler Bishop (Rensselaer), linebacker, third team defense.

The latest state boys basketball rankings show the following:

Class AA-6. CBA of Albany, 19. Albany Academy, 24. Troy; A-17. Green Tech; B-5. Watervliet, 10. Mekeel Christian; C-11. Greenwich, 12. Hoosick Falls, 18. Mechanicville, 20. Lake George; D-6. Argyle, 11. Sharon Springs.

In state wrestling, Shenendehowa is tied for first in the Large School division while Queensbury and Columbia are 11th and 13th, respectively.

Hudson Falls occupies 11th place in the Small School division.
