After a banner athletic year that saw several Plainsmen athletic programs advance deep into sectional and state tournaments, the Shenendehowa athletic department has earned the Kerr Cup All-Sport Championship for the best athletic department in the state of New York.

The story, which was reported on Wednesday by YourCliftonPark.com, says that the award is based on a points system, with each sport getting a point value based on how they finished the season.

For winning the Class AA Boys' Basketball state title, Shen got 15 points, as an example.

Shen scored 57.17 total points, beating out Victor of Rochester by 12.67 points.

“To be able to have it share in a tremendous year for the school made it even more special,” said head coach Tony Dzikas to YourCliftonPark.

Moving further, Shen made deep state tournaments runs in football, boys soccer, and boys cross country.

“For me, this was the culmination of an outstanding year. The 2015 class was such a great class,” Plainsmen Athletic Director Chris Culnan told YourCliftonPark. “In my time here, they’re one of the best classes we’ve had, on and off the field.”
