Combine the two-hit pitching of Erika Daigle and timely hitting by Katie O'Gorman and Caitlin Lawson, Shenendehowa silenced Guilderland, 4-0, for the Section II Class AA softball championship on Friday at Veeder Park (Colonie).

The game was scoreless through four innings as Daigle and Mallory Harrigan starred on the mound.

O'Gorman had a two-run single while Lawson contributed a big double scoring two runs.

Fort Ann got the best of Loudonville Christian, 11-4, to capture the Section II Class D title. Kaleigh Foran had a big day at the plate with four hits and five RBI.

It also marked the first loss of the season to Loudonville Christian's outstanding pitcher Alex Rollis. The Lady Eagles were 19-0 entering the game.

South Glens Falls turned away Averill Park, 3-1, for another Class A championship. The state's top-ranked Class A team ran its record to 20-0.

Lindsay Sullivan picked up her 20th victory of the season.

Greenwich beat Hoosic Valley, 5-3, in the Class C title contest. Sam Whitbeck and Mariah Linnett had two-run singles to lead the Witches.

In Class B, Chatham won over Ichabod Crane, 6-1, to earn its first-ever Class B honor.

While all the sectional finals were played, the Big 10 had a semifinal game where Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons beat Troy, 3-1. NDBG will play Catholic Central for the title on Monday.

 

 

Baseball

Kevin Connolly pitched six shutout innings and struck out 13 and Anthony Scaccia hit a two-run triple as Voorheesville knocked off Hoosick Falls, 6-1, to win the Section II Class C championship game.

In the Class A final, Glens Falls pushed across three runs in the first inning to beat rival Queensbury, 3-2, and win the crown.

Mike Harrington collected an RBI double to lead the Indians. Zach Milton, 10-0 this season, pitched the victory with relief help from Harrington.

In Class B, Albany Academy defeated Catskill, 6-3, for the championship.

The Cadets managed to win the game on only two hits.

The Class AA final saw Columbia squeak past Shenendehowa, 3-2, in nine innings for the crown. A.J. Maney provided the game-winning hit for the Blue Devils.

Tennis

It was a long day for three Section II players in the state tournament.

Albany Academy's Stefan Kuhar lost in singles while Erick Kopff and Austin Malerba of Guilderland suffered a doubles loss.
