Unless you've been living under a rock, or have just been sticking to NBC's tape delay filled coverage of the Olympics, you've heard the story of Shin A Lam, the South Korean fencer who was robbed of an opportunity at a gold medal due to a timekeeping snafu. She received a degree of consolation today as a part of the silver medal winning South Korean team in the team epee event.

Korea was undone by China, who won the match 38-25. The match was tied at 9 heading into the fifth round, where China began to pull away. Shin, despite the match being out of reach, took the piste in the final round and received the loudest cheers from the crowd after every touch on an opponent. I'm sure she would have preferred gold, but at least she lost due to the performance of her opponent, rather than another injustice.
