Boston Red Sox star lefty Chris Sale told the media on Saturday that the cause of his hospitalization during the ALCS was irritation caused by a belly-button ring. Sale, of course, was joking. Or was he?

"I had irritation from a belly-button ring, just constantly taking it in and out, causing irritation and got a rash down there. Had to take care of that. Doctors and nurses over at MGH were awesome. Things happen. You handle them and keep moving forward." Those quotes are according to the Boston Herald.

This has to be hijinks right? Yes, obviously. Sale admitted to losing weight while dealing with a stomach issue that sent him to the hospital. If what he told the media were true, however, it would go down as one of the most bizarre injuries in baseball history.

It would be up there with frostbite from an ice pack (Rickey Henderson) and back spasms from sneezing (Sammy Sosa). And, who could ever forget cutting your pitching hand open while assembling a drone (Trevor Bauer).
