Siena Men’s Basketball Sweeps MAAC Weekly Honors

For the first time this season, both weekly MAAC awards went to players from the same school. Siena junior OD Anosike earned the conference's Player of the Week award for the second time this season, while freshman teammate Rob Poole brought home Siena's fourth Rookie of the Week trophy in 2011-12.

Anosike averaged 20 points, 15 rebounds and shot 59% from the field in three MAAC games this past week. He scored 17 points and added 15 rebounds in the Saints' 65-62 home win over first-place Iona. In Siena's win over Marist, Anosike had 21 points and 12 rebounds in 37 minutes. He completed the week with a monster effort in the Saints' hard-fought loss at Rider, scoring 22 points and adding 16 rebounds. Anosike leads the nation in rebounding (12.9) and double-doubles (17). His streak of 17 straight double-doubles ties Tim Duncan's as the second longest in Division I over the last 15 seasons.

Meanwhile, Poole played a huge role in Siena's big win over Iona, scoring 14 points and dishing out six assists (one turnover) in 36 minutes off the bench. He scored nine points in the final eight minutes (Iona had five), including a huge 3-pointer and a putback after a key offensive rebound that cut the lead to Gaels' four. Poole made four huge free throws down the stretch as well - the first two gave the Saints' the lead for good with 2:27 to play and the last two sealed the win with 10 seconds on the clock. The 14 points were his season high, but he bested that total scoring 15 in the Saints win over Marist the next time out. Poole made 5-10 field goals against the Red Foxes, including two 3-pointers. He rounded out his strong week with a six-point, five assist effort at Rider. On the week, Poole averaged 11.7 points, 4.3 rebound and 3.7 assists.

Anosike, Poole and the Saints will return to action on Friday night, when they host Saint Peter's at the Times Union Center in a 7 p.m. tilt. It's the annual Gold Rush game, and the first 4,000 fans in attendance will receive free rally towels. The game is also the G.E. Kids in Free game, and all children 12 and under will receive free admission.
